Generation One

 

1.  John1 MacIntyre, b. abt. 1790 in Bailevicphail, North Uist (now Newton Ferry), (son of Angus MacIntyre) d. in Canoe Lake, Nova Scotia.  John MacIntyre and his brother Donald MacIntyre arrived in Canoe Lake in the 1820's, from North Uist. They had their wives and children with them. The two pioneer families took up land in Canoe Lake, which is a few miles inland from the community of Gabarus Lake.

Generation Two

 

2.  Alexander2 MacIntyre, (1.John1) b. abt. 1820 in Grenitote, North Uist, Scotland, d. in Canoe Lake, Nova Scotia.  He married Anne MacIntyre, married in Canoe Lake, Nova Scotia, b. abt. 1820 in North Uist, Scotland, d. in Canoe Lake, Cape Breton, NS.

                             Children:

            3.       i.     John3 MacIntyre b. 1846.

                      ii.    Isabel MacIntyre.

                      iii.   Margarete MacIntyre.

                      iv.   Flora MacIntyre.

                      v.    Christie MacIntyre.

 

Generation Three

 

3.  John3 MacIntyre, (2.Alexander2, 1.John1) b. 1846 in Canoe Lake, Nova Scotia, d. November, 1884 near Gabarus; lost at sea; sinking of the Valentine.  John MacIntyre was lost at sea when the ship Valentine sank on its way to Gabarus from Halifax in 1884.  At the time of his death he left his wife (Sarah Munroe) and two young children (John D MacIntyre and Isabel MacIntyre) at home in Canoe Lake.

     In 1884 the Government of Nova Scotia granted John MacIntyre the 75-acre MacIntyre farm in Canoe Lake, on Petition No. 16002.  This property was bordered on the North side by the land of Mrs. Ann MacIntyre (his mother?) and on the South side by the lands of Angus Munro and Peter Link.  Now long grown over, this land is still in the MacIntyre family and is accessible from Canoe Lake Road.

     John Macintyre married Sarah Munroe, on January 31, 1882 in Canoe Lake, Nova Scotia.  Sarah was born. June 1, 1852 in Canoe Lake and she was the daughter of Donald Munroe and Effie Macdonald. Sarah died on January 7, 1931 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.  Their daughter Isabel MacIntyre married Daniel MacKeigan and they had a daughter, Flora MacKeigan.  Daniel MacKeigan died young, probably of TB, and when Isabel remarried to Dan MacLean, her daughter Flora went to Canoe Lake to live with her grandmother, Sarah, and her uncle John D. MacIntyre.  In 1913 this family moved into Sydney where John D. MacIntyre found work as a carpenter at ChappellŐs and later at the Sydney Steel Plant.

    

     Sarah (Munroe) MacIntyre was one of ten children of Donald Munroe and Effie MacDonald of Canoe Lake.  Both of Sarah's parents were born in North Uist.

Generation Four

 

4.  John D.4 MacIntyre, (3.John3, 2.Alexander2, 1.John1) b. August 13, 1884 in Canoe Lake, Nova Scotia, d. November 14, 1954 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.  He married (1) Mary Belle MacLean of Stillwater, Catalone, married 1914 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, b. December 9, 1882 in Louisbourg, Nova Scotia, (daughter of Neil MacLean and Catherine MacDonald) d. September 21,1938 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.  He married (2) Annie Jane MacDonald, married 1944 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, b. 1895, d. 1973 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

                             Children:

            6.       i.     Neil Ronald5 MacIntyre b. September 10, 1916.

            7.       ii.    John Rice MacIntyre b. August 18, 1918.

            8.       iii.   Sarah Kathleen MacIntyre b. October 20, 1920.

 

5.  Isabel4 MacIntyre, (3.John3, 2.Alexander2, 1.John1) b. October 25, 1882 in Canoe Lake, Nova Scotia.  She married (1) Daniel MacKeigan, married May 20, 1902 in Gabarus, Cape Breton County, b. March 15, 1873 in Trout Brook Mines, Mira, CB County, (son of Archibald MacKeigan and Flora MacVicar) d. in Cape Breton.  She married (2) Dan MacLean.

                             Children:

                      i.     Flora5 MacKeigan, b. August, 1903 in Canoe Lake, NS, d. March 25, 1990 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.  She married Eric Pardington, b. 1909 in Birmingham, England, d. June 23, 1995 in Sydney, NS.  Eric Pardington was one of the Home Children sent to Canada from the UK.  Flora and Eric had no children.

Generation Five

 

6.  Neil Ronald5 MacIntyre, (4.John D.4, 3.John3, 2.Alexander2, 1.John1) b. September 10, 1916 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, d. October 7, 1957 in Marion Bridge, CB County, NS.  He married Christine Evelyn Matheson, married 1937 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, b. 1917 in Breton Cove, CB, (daughter of Norman Kenneth Matheson and Effie MacDonald) d. 1990 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

                             Children:

                      i.     James6 , b. March 20, 1938 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, d. March 20, 1938 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

            9.       ii.    Mary Belle MacIntyre b. May 12, 1939.

            10.     iii.   Norman Claude MacIntyre b. September 20,1941.

            11.     iv.   John James MacIntyre b. December 11, 1941.

            12.     v.    Kenneth Neil MacIntyre b. March 3, 1946.

            13.     vi.   Malcolm Ronald MacIntyre b. May 23, 1947.

            14.     vii.  Angus Charles MacIntyre b. January 3, 1951.

            15.     viii. David Ross MacIntyre b. April 20, 1953.

            16.     ix.   Douglas Fraser MacIntyre b. September 24, 1955.

 

7.  John Rice5 MacIntyre, (4.John D.4, 3.John3, 2.Alexander2, 1.John1) b. August 18, 1918 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, d. March 2, 1990 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.  He married Eileen Philomena O'Brien in Sydney, Nova Scotia, b. April 2, 1923 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, (daughter of Martin Joseph O'Brien and Annie Mary Healy) d. November 2, 1985 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

                             Children:

                      i.     John Brian6 MacIntyre, b. September 24, 1946 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, d. May 15, 1981 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.  He married Ann Dora Butts, b. 1947 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, (daughter of Edward Butts and Germaine Butts).

                      ii.    Howard Douglas MacIntyre, b. January 26, 1948 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

            17.     iii.   Robert Anthony MacIntyre b. June 5, 1950.

                      iv.   Stephen Ralph MacIntyre, b. June 21, 1951 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

                      v.    Martin Joseph MacIntyre, b. October 5, 1953 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.  Martin was born with a stillborn twin brother.

            18.     vi.   Eileen Marie MacIntyre b. August 5, 1955.

                      vii.  Barbara Kathleen MacIntyre, b. December 3, 1957 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

            19.     viii. Ronald Neil MacIntyre b. September 4, 1959.

8.  Sarah Kathleen5 MacIntyre, (4.John D.4, 3.John3, 2.Alexander2, 1.John1) b. October 20,1920 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, d. December 5, 1992 in Regina, Saskatchewan.  She married John Tian, b. 1916 in Saskatchewan.
